Esther Kellogg (Mayo) Ward
     Esther Kellogg Mayo was born on 20 March 1814 at Orange, Massachusetts.1,2,3,4,5,6,7 She was the daughter of Stephen Mayo and Mary Cheney.

Esther Kellogg Mayo, age 21, married Deacon Thomas Harris Ward, age 21 , son of Deacon Daniel Ward and Sarah Jones, on 27 October 1835.8,7,9 Esther Kellogg Mayoappeared on the US Census of 1850 in the household of Levi Jones Ward and Eliza Whipple Temple at Orange, Massachusetts.10 Esther, age 40 years, and Thomas, age 40 years , appeared on the Massachusetts State Census of 1855.11 Esther, age 45 years, and Thomas, age 45 years, appeared on the US Census of 1860 at Orange, Massachusetts.12 There is a family tradition, which says that she went to Washington, D.C., to visit her dying son, Marcus.5 Esther, age 50 years, and Thomas, age 50 years , appeared on the Massachusetts State Census of 1865 at Orange, Massachusetts.13 Esther, age 55 years, and Thomas, age 55 years, appeared on the US Census of 1870 at Orange, Massachusetts.14 Esther, age 65 years, and Thomas, age 65 years, appeared on the US Census of 1880 at Orange, Massachusetts.15 Esther Kellogg Mayo died on 19 August 1895 at Orange, Massachusetts, at age 81 from debility following a broken thigh.16,1,4,5,3,17,2 Esther's obituary of 20 August 1895, reads:

Mrs. Esther Mayo Ward, one of our aged and respected residents passed away last week Monday morning at three o'clock. She had long been ill, partly from fracturing her hip by a fall. She was born here March 10, 1814 and spent most of her eighty-one years of her life in this place. She was a member of the Congregational church here. She leaves six children, four of whom live in Orange and North Orange; Mr. Wales Ward in Saratoga, N.Y. and Mrs. Eddy Brooks at Grand Rapids, Michigan. All were present at the funeral as was her brother, Mr. William Mayo and his wife from Leominster.4
She was buried at Jones Cemetery, Orange, Massachusetts.1,18
