     Stephen Mayo was born on 2 February 1783 at Orange, Massachusetts.1,2,3 He was the son of Benjamin Mayo and Dorothy Goddard. According to Mayo (1965), "He was a practical and progressive agriculturist and a citizen of integrity.1"

Stephen Mayo, age 21, married Mary Cheney, age 19 , daughter of Levi Cheney and Mary Hill, in April 1804 at Orange, Massachusetts. They were married by Joseph Metcalf, Esq.2,1,4 Stephen, appeared on the US Census of 1810 at Orange, Massachusetts. The enumeration reads:
