     Sarah Melissa Mayhew was born on 23 January 1860 at Hermon, Maine.1,2,3,4 She was the daughter of James M. Mayhew and Amanda Jane Clark. Sarah Melissa Mayhewappeared on the US Census of 1870 in the household of James M. Mayhew and Amanda Jane Clark at Hermon, Maine.5

Sarah Melissa Mayhew, age 17, married Herbert Samuel Lord, age 19 , son of Lorenzo Fred Lord and Augusta Ann Holt, on 22 January 1878 at Levant, Maine.6,7 Sarah, age 19 years, and Herbert, age 21 years, appeared on the US Census of 1880 at Brewer, Maine.8

Sarah Melissa Mayhew married Joseph B. Alexander, son of Samuel Alexander and Eliza Hasalett, in 1888.2,4 Sarah, age 39 years, and Joseph, age 40 years, appeared on the US Census of 1900 at Hudson, Maine.4 Sarah, age 49 years, and Joseph, age 50 years, appeared on the US Census of 1910 at Main Highway, Hudson, Maine.9 Sarah, age 59 years, and Joseph, age 60 years, appeared on the US Census of 1920 at Glenham Road, Hudson, Maine.10 Sarah, age 69 years, and Joseph, age 70 years, appeared on the US Census of 1930 at Glenburn Road, Hudson, Maine.11 Sarah Melissa Mayhew died on 19 December 1937 at home on Hudson, Maine, at age 77.1,2,3 She was buried at Pushaw Cemetery, Hudson, Maine.3,12 Sarah's obituary of 29 December 1937, reads:

Dec 28 — Mrs Sarah M Alexander 77 widow of Joseph Alexander who died at her home here after a long decline was born in Hermon coming here when about 25 years old and was married to Mr Alexander.

She leaves a brother Bertie Mayhew of Levant a half-brother Russell Maynew of Millinocket five daughters and five sons Mrs Vera M Drillen of Bangor Mrs Estella E Levenseller of Atkinson Mrs Gladys L Ryder Mrs Hazel V Stormann and Mrs Grace B Peirce all of Hudson Myron Alexander of Glenturn Byron Alexander of Hudson Decateur Alexander Portland Charles Alexander Lee Alexander of Hudson many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren nieces and nephews

She was a devoted and much beloved mother i and most highly regarded by all 'who knew her Interment was in Hudson village cemetery.2
