Herbert J. Woodman
     Herbert J. Woodman was born on 19 April 1848 at Auburn, Maine.1,2,3,4 He was the son of Deacon Greenleaf H. Woodman and Dorothy E Dunham. Herbert J. Woodmanappeared on the US Census of 1850 in the household of Deacon Greenleaf H. Woodman and Dorothy E Dunham at Auburn, Maine.5 Herbert J. Woodmanappeared on the US Census of 1860 in the household of Deacon Greenleaf H. Woodman and Dorothy E Dunham at Auburn, Maine.6 Herbert J. Woodmanappeared on the US Census of 1870 in the household of Deacon Greenleaf H. Woodman and Dorothy E Dunham at Auburn, Maine.7 According to the Federal Census in 1870, Herbert was a house carpenter.7

Herbert J. Woodman, age 27, married Mary E. Flanders, age 21 , daughter of Frederick Moses Flanders and Sarah A. Berry, on 18 September 1875 at Lawrence, Massachusetts.8,9,10,11 Herbert, age 31 years, and Mary, age 25 years, appeared on the US Census of 1880 at 45 Bartlette Street, Lewiston, Maine.12 According to the Federal Census in 1880, Herbert was a carpenter.12 Herbert and Marymoved to Lowell, Massachusetts, circa 1884. About 1884, Herbert and Mary moved to Lowell, Massachusetts.13 He was taxed $2.00 in poll tax and $3.77 in real estate tax 12 October 1888 in Lowell, Massachusetts.14 Herbert was promoted to the superintendent of the Massachusetts Cotton Mills on 27 June 1889 at Lowell, Massachusetts.15 About 1890, he invented, patented, and marketed a device for spinning machines.16 He died on 2 June 1892 at Lowell, Massachusetts, at age 44 from typhoid fever.17,11,2,3,4 He was buried at Lowell Cemetery, Lowell, Massachusetts, on Wilberforce Avenue.18
